I can still remember one of my first 3D projects in Blender in 2011, I was trying to make an intro for my friends YouTube channel in Year 7, and I happened to come across one of the many video tutorials on how to make your own custom "20th Century Fox" intro in a cheeky little application called 'Blender'.
I watched the tutorial over and over again on my little school supplied 2009 Macbook laptop and the MacOS release of Blender 2.5X, and for the next 6 days non-stop, my little Macbook that could stayed open and absolutely powering through roughly 600 frames, all while I continued to do school work in the background, but if it at all affected my render, the school work had to wait.
We get to 2020, the beginning of COVID, I was in a rut trying to figure out what to do with my life, and with recent news that I would need reconstructive surgeries in the coming years, I was really stuck with what I could do.
I had flashbacks to my previous love of 3D and started looking into what courses were available for VFX Artists in Melbourne. Thats where I came across AIE.
I underwent 2 years of training to obtain a Diploma & Advanced Diploma in Screen & Media, focusing on VFX and specialising in special effects.
Over the years of high school I kept at improving my 3D knowledge, but I started to take more of an interest in the actual hardware of computer itself, making small upgrades to my machine over the years as I could manage them.
As my mates gradually started converting to PC's and building their own rigs, they would sometimes reach out and get some help with troubleshooting or just building the rig to make sure its done right and works.
We started having more and more LAN events and playing more competitive shooter games. My 3D hobby had taken a long break at this point.

Fast forward to 2024-25 and the advent of AI and generative AI has taken over, video generation tools such as Google Veo have taken the vfx industry by surprise and by 2027, video generation is set to be indistinguishable, and fine tunable enough that a simple prompt can replace: 3D Modeller, Rigger, Animator, Texturing, Rendering and effects all with an ASTRONOMICAL reduction in time required for labor and rendering.
While some might see this as the future of media and a great thing for independent creators around the world, It has made my skill-set redundant.
Rather than adapt and join the AI revolution, Ive decided to pivot and take my existing training for 3D and apply it to my second lifelong hobby, gaming.
My younger brother has also always wanted to be a game developer, but struggles with the social aspect of the office and stresses of high-intensity environments and would rather create passion projects at home. I would love to one day join with my brother and develop a joint-venture.
We both have ideas already to go, we just need to get the know how. So watch this space, because we feel like you might like what we have in mind for this journey :).
